Dear @FIRSTNAME@
Welcome to our first eBulletin
Community Foundation Network (CFN) is pleased to present its first Professional Adviser Ebulletin aimed at keeping you informed of what's going on in community foundations and the world of philanthropy.
We hope you enjoy this publication which we will produce three times a year to keep you informed about how community foundations can support you and your clients.
Thank you for your interest in philanthropy.
How to more than treble your clients' donations
In a groundbreaking initiative, Government is providing a 50 million match to individuals and companies contributing to endowed funds at community foundations in England for grassroots projects. The aim is to promote and incentivise charitable giving to provide funding for small local groups now and in the future.
Some community foundations are able to offer match funding of 1 for every 1 donated, others are offering 1 for every 2. For a higher rate tax player claiming Gift Aid, this could more than treble the size of their donation.
Find out more about the Grassroots Endowment Challenge and how this can enhance your clients' giving.

Serving your clients during the economic downturn
A client's philanthropic dreams to not necessarily have to be compromised by the economic downturn. A donor advised fund (DAF) at a community foundation can provide the same benefits to a client as a private charitable trust, including all tax reliefs, but shares the cost that any charity or trust would incure with other donors. Find out more about Donor Advised Funds and trusts compared.

Boost the impact of your clients' charitable trusts
If you or your clients are looking for assistance with dormant or inactive charitable assets, community foundations can help. The Boost Initiative, a partnership between CFN and the Charity Commission, managed by Community Foundation for Merseyside and sponsored by Rathbones, aims to unlock and enhance dormant and inactive charitable assets to meet the needs of local communities. Boost offers a number of solutions to help trustees enhance their giving through local community foundations. Read more

Manifesto for Community Philanthropy CFN has created a working group to draw up a Manifesto for Community Philanthropy, with a view to influencing the policies of all the main political parties.
Baroness Prashar CBE, Honorary President of CFN, has asked the CFN chairman and philanthropist, Matthew Bowcock (pictured above) to chair a working group to look at how the government can more effectively encourage voluntary sector and philanthropists to deliver changes at a local level.
The group will call on the expertise of donors, grantmakers and academics. It will also draw on the experience of CFN's network of 57 local foundations, which together make around 70 million in grants to grassroots organisations every year.
Baroness Prashar said we need to "harness the expertise we have within the network in order to influence public policy and political agendas. The role of government in creating an environment and conditions where philanthropic activity can prosper is crucial."
The Manifesto for Community Philanthropy is set to be released early in 2009.
Spreading the word about community foundations If you know of other professional advisers who may be intererested in learning about community foundations, they can sign up for this Professional Adviser Ebulletin, which will be produced quarterly.
