. Community foundations show strong year

Figures from community foundations paint a strong picture for the year 2007-08:

Seven foundations increased their net endowment by over £1 million each.

28 foundations noted new endowment totalling £15.7 million - £11.4 million to new funds and £4.3 million to existing funds.

271 new funds were established in 2007-08, worth £34 million altogether. The £22.5 million in new flowthrough funds includes £10m from one Leeds donor. Average fund size, excluding the Leeds donation, is £55,000

The other key statistics are that as a network we remain by far the largest independent funders of the community sector (£66 million and 20,500 grants made) and we probably manage more giving committed to the community sector than anyone else (£163 million of endowment, or £222 million of funds including pledges, legacies and managed trusts).
